At Southern Seasons Heating and Air, we understand that you might have a lot of questions about heating and air conditioning. Below are answers to the questions we receive most often from our customers.
Homeowners are sometimes tempted to perform their own repairs on a malfunctioning air conditioner. Unfortunately, this can create more problems than it solves unless you have undergone HVAC training yourself. We encourage you to contact our company right away if you notice any of these problems:
A service technician will assess the problem and provide you with an immediate estimate on how much it will cost to repair.
We recommend that you do this approximately every three months or at the start of each new season. Air filters collect debris in the air and can quickly become too clogged to do an efficient job of heating or cooling your home. Replacing a dirty air filter with a clean one helps to keep your energy costs as low as possible as well.
Preventive maintenance is one of the most important HVAC services you can receive because it has such a positive impact on the performance of your heating and cooling systems. Southern Seasons Heating and Air recommends that you schedule a preventive maintenance appointment for each unit at least once a year, preferably right before the start of the heating and cooling seasons.
Preventive maintenance is more than just a tune-up. It also gives your service technician the opportunity to detect problems with your unit before they become difficult or costly to repair. Annual maintenance can also help to extend the lifespan of your heating and cooling systems by several years.
According to the federal program Energy Star, homeowners should start to consider replacement when their air conditioner or heat pump is 10 years old or their furnace or boiler is at least 15 years old. However, Energy Star published the information several years ago and newer HVAC systems are more efficient than ever. That means age of the unit is only one small consideration. You also need to consider the following:
It’s easy enough to repair one of these issues but having several of them at the same time should direct you more towards replacement rather than continued repairs.
Ideally, you should aim for 30 to 40 percent humidity in your home. When the percentage goes higher than that, you start to see condensation on windows as well as dust and mold. The latter two are prime causes of allergies and asthma. On the flip side, having too little humidity can cause static electricity and a dry throat, nose, and skin. If you struggle with getting the humidity level in your house just right, contact our heating and air services company for an evaluation.
We hope the above helped to answer some of your most pressing questions about heating and air conditioning. Southern Seasons Heating & Air always welcomes you to contact us with additional questions or to request an appointment.
